Knock Your Socks Off Knock Off!

Are you all ready to see the awesome knock off I created??

I chose to do a knock off from the one and only Mandi from Vintage Revivals.  She is also one of the stars of Crafting with the Stars which makes it that much more fun!  Yep, I am aware I reference her A LOT... I just can't help admiring her awesomeness.

This is actually a huge coincidence.  I just HAPPENED to do a knock off the week before the contest.  I had no idea what this week's theme was, I just genuinely loved her idea and wanted to recreate it for myself.  I did a knock off of her amazing compass rug.  I used her tutorial and made a TON of mistakes but the end result was fantastic.

She started out a little rough.  I found her in a small thrift store and she wasn't even put together.  Her legs were sitting across the room from her top.  It was sad really.  I rescued her from certain doom and brought her home for a little Remley Re-do.  I had dreams of a turquise table... and still think it would have ROCKED... but my hubster wanted a table "the color of a wine cork".  Have no idea where he gets this stuff... Apparently I have been drinking too much wine lately.

I coated her with some primer and painted her turquise (so that when I sanded  and gave her some "age" the fun color would peak through.)  Then I sprayed  about a thousand coats of RustOleum's Almond.  It is the perfect color and the turquise looks so cute peaking through!

After hours of sanding, deciding it looked like crap, repainting, and sanding again, I came to the conclusion that I needed some new direction.  That's when I remembered Mandi's (from Vintage Revivals) rug.  Check it out here.  I used her tutorial and it worked swimmingly!  I am the proud owner of this amazing kitchen table!

Here is the progression of the project  (I won't even attempt to do a tutorial because I could never do any better then Mandi already did):

So, linky on up and join us for our Crafting from the Sidelines contest.  It is easy and fun and we would love to see your knock offs.  Don't forget to vote as well.  (you can vote even if you aren't a part of the contest.)  Vote by commenting on this post or by hoping over to Northeast of Eden the host of this weeks ***Crafting From the Sidelines*** and commenting there.  Hop around and check out the amazing projects peeps.  It will be fun!

I am linked up over at Sew Dang Cute's contest as well, and would LOVE you all to click over.  The more times my link is clicked the more likely I am to win!
ANY WHO thanks for playing!!

  1. Wow! I love everything about that table... the color, the compass, the egg & dart trim, EVERYTHING! Your efforts really paid off, and for the record, I have NEVER had success with that "fun color" peaking through technique either!

  2. I just love your table! I think the turquoise would have been great too but I think it's a credit to you that it still POPS without a bright color. Great work!
