TT&J Feature!!!

I was just sitting back relaxing after a long weekend of working on the house when I just happened upon this post by Jen over at Tatertots and Jello.  If you haven't been over to her site you are seriously missing out.  She is a big league blogger.   She's like a rockstar in the blogging world and she featured Old Rusty!!

I am sure you can imagine my excitement when I stumbled upon my awesome chair redo.  I mean, I thought it was a cool upcycle and all, but to have Jen feel it was cool enough to feature on her site made my whole day!  Anyway,  just wanted to brag for a second:)  It's not often you just stumble upon your own projects on such a cool site!

Guess I should get back to work on finishing the mantle we started 2 DAYS AGO... Uhg.    Happy Monday everyone:)

EGGCELLENT!!

Easter was so much fun this year.  Usually we would go to church but since being back down in Littleton we haven't exactly found a church that we would call home... yet.  I think we have found one that we really like, but every time we go Luci has a melt down and the poor workers at the nursery call me out.  This particular church does a live web stream so instead of only getting to listen to half a sermon we decided to stream it right into the comfort of our own home.  We watched it online in our pjs on the couch. I know this is a terrible way to experience fellowship but seriously, it was so relaxing and I actually got to hear the whole thing!

Anyway, after church on the couch we got ready to walk over my sister in law's house for an egg hunt and lunch.  It was a perfect 70 degree day and she lives just a few blocks away.  When we got there all the kids got TONS of food and candy and Luci had a BLAST.  She ran, and ran, and ran, until she literally collapsed in her grandmas arms and we took her home for a nap.  Holidays are so much more fun now that I have a kid!  Oh, and Luci learned how to yell "YAY Jesus."  I almost peed my pants laughing it was so cute.

It was such a great day.  Yay Jesus!

Old Rusty

In the great stash of awesomeness that my mom brought over the other day was this chair.

The metal is rusted, the red is HORRIBLE, the chair is ugly... and I LOVE it.

I am pretty sure it used to be in a crappy hamburger joint or retro breakfast place.  The rust was perfect, the red vinyl was NOT.  So I decided to cover it in this sweet burlap my mom brought me.

Hint:  You can get these cool burlap bags at Murdochs... they are practically GIVING them away!

Covering a circle is much harder then a square it turns out... but I fought through it and got this amazing result.  I love it!

So much better then the old red vinyl, right?!  Now it is rusty and rustic:)

One Lucky Girl

I don't think I say this enough so I am going to go ahead and say it now... My husband is amazing!  He is hard working, considerate... and did I mention handsome;)

I was out of town for 4 days this last week and not only did my hubby take care of a puking little girl but he cleaned the house, painted the entire basement, and finished grouting the fireplace.  I should go away more often!

Along with all of the above listed awesomeness he decided to a channel his inner decorator.  We redid our kitchen table a while ago and decided to take off the leaves.  The truth is, we have a tiny dining room and a smaller table just looks way better.  Well, the leaves were sitting in the garage when I left, and when I got home...

He had turned them into shelves!!!  See, he can be a creative too:)  He even sprayed them white and found cute decorative corbels to put them up with.  Looking at them now you would never know I used to eat dinner on them.

Oh, did I mention he decorated them as well.  All of the cute little decor you see on there was already in place when I got home.  I had absolutely nothing to do with it.  I have never been so proud:)

Back to Life... Back to REALITY!!

What I've learned in just one week:

My definition of crafty is quite different then most... It turns out being creative does not always translate the way you want.  But do what you do with conviction, even if others don't see it the way you do!

Trying... even if you fail... is always worth it.

I love my little life.  No amount of money, fame, or good fortune could ever replace the blessings I have.

Sometimes it takes falling flat on your face... in the most public way possible... to realize that you are just perfect the way you are.  And I really mean it. I fell flat on my face, got up, dusted myself off, and live to laugh about it.

I may not be the best at what I do, but damn it, I am doing it and loving every minute!

This week I really got to know myself in an extremely stressful situation... and you know what... It turns out... I am not as bad as I thought I was.  I am always so hard on myself but this week I think I really proved what I am made of (and it wasn't just cookies).  I came out the other side alive, and better for it.  It was really cool to stretch myself to my limits and allow myself to be challenged more then ever.  Being a failure has never felt so right:)

And, oh my gosh, I can't tell you how much I love my "normal" life!

I hope you all have an amazing weekend.

What's that, You Wanted to see Another Piece of Black Furniture??!!

Ok, Ok, I am aware that I have done a lot of black furniture lately but it is finally balancing out the white at the shop!  Plus, I had a crap ton of black paint so I figured this thrifty girl will save a few bucks and use what she's got.

My mom brought this little beauty to me one day while I was working at the shop.  Although it was pretty just the way it was, the previous owner had a dog, or cat, or hungry child, that had gnawed on one corner of it.  So I piled it into the car, unloaded it into the garage, and let it sit there for a month or so.  I have no idea why I don't just redo stuff right away. It's like I have to think about it, and let it sit there and annoy me until I finally break down and do it.  That is the HUGE procrastinator in me.  Well, a couple of big things sold at the store so in a mad dash to fill the empty space I got off my lazy tush and got to work.

I sanded those lovely bite marks off of the corners and then sprayed it... black... shocking I know.

Then I sanded more until it was as distressed as I liked it.  You guys... for reals... this really wan't that hard.  What in the heck was I waiting for!!  I seem to think things will be harder then they actually are sometimes.  Silly me.

Sorry for the mess under the table. I took this picture while re-arranging.  But the table sure does look cute!

Easter Fun Come Early!

My best friend Heather decided to have a little Easter get together for the kiddos.  I have always wanted to be that perfect party thrower... but I am SO not.  I try but Heather succeeds.  She had a whole bunch of pinterest inspired snacks and crafts.  It was so much fun to let the kids get wild with paint, shaving cream, and Easter egg dye.

She had these foam eggs that the kids painted with shaving cream and paint.  Luci LOVED it!  Skylar (the dog) did not.

(sorry Sky)

Yep, that is paint on the poor dog's butt... she puts up with a lot:)  Such a good girl!

Next up on the list of fun was dying Easter eggs.  I guess if you write on the egg with a white crayon before you dye them it blocks the dye from that spot.  I bet EVERYONE already knows that but it was news to me haha.  At least I learned about it now before Luci is too old.

She also had egg salad sandwiches, bunny gummies, and carrots for lunch.  Such a cute little theme party.  Thanks Heather!!  What are you guys doing for Easter?  I am sure you all have some awesome crafts in mind!
